Legal Counsel – 6 Month Contract

 

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Legal Counsel to join the Citywide team for a 6 month contract. Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, you will provide legal advice and governance support concerning business activities and projects.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Providing a full suite of legal services to Executives, Business Managers, Functional Leads and other staff including contracts, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, employment law, disputes resolution and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintaining, enhancing and promoting the compliance policy and program.
  • Managing the outsourcing of legal services if required.
  • Assisting the Company Secretaries in performing their duties and responsibilities.
  • Developing and implementing precedents and training relating to key legal risk areas to build organisational knowledge, improve documentation and procedures and to generate efficiencies in carrying out legal work.

 

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • Tertiary qualification in law and holding or being eligible to hold a current practising certificate as an Australian lawyer
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a lawyer
  • Prior in-house legal experience desirable
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated sound judgement to effectively prioritise workload and ability to work autonomously, while maintaining a high quality of service
  • Relevant legal skills in interpreting, analysing and drafting legal documents
  • Ability to build effective working relationships through effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated high level professional judgement in complex and sensitive matters
  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organisation
